State of the Nations | A Cultural Review

As a prelude to our 40th celebration, we invite members to join us for a special panel discussion.

We welcome representatives from cultural bodies across the UK to reflect on where each nation stands today. The discussion will cover recent challenges from funding landscapes to evolving societal roles, while looking optimistically toward the future of our shared and distinct cultural identities.

Our panellists will explore how the culture sectors across the UK are evolving, where they find common ground, and how they can continue to thrive as vital pillars of society. They will also provide insight into the prominence of philanthropy and business sponsorship across their respective regions, as well as a view on where culture and business could flourish more.

Join us for a comparative analysis of the nations, grounded in real-world challenges like funding, but driven by a forward-looking, collaborative spirit.

Our panellists include:

Alastair Evans | Director, Strategy and Planning | Creative Scotland

Ben Lane | Senior Manager, Business Innovation | Arts Council England

Brona Whittaker | Chief Executive Officer | Arts & Business Northern Ireland

Perfectly placed to guide the discussion is Eleanor Updale, the prizewinning author best known for her award-winning Victorian-era Montmorency series, and former trustee of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, which supports cultural charities across the UK.
