The Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland has been taking place throughout the school holidays, in partnership with The Reading Agency and Scotland’s libraries.

Over 35,000 children will have been involved in the reading programme which encourages children to tackle six books during the long holiday period – when there is a traditional dip.

Special events have taken place in all 30 participating local authorities with authors, storytellers, illustrators, actors and puppeteers involved in engaging around 4,500 children and their families.

Speaking at the launch, author Jonathan Meres, who entertained a group of primary four children from Fox Covert RC Primary said: “If I can get just one kid in a library who wouldn’t normally be seen dead there – my work here is done”.

Adele Mills at Tesco Bank added: “As with all our programmes, our commitment is to widen accessibility and opportunities for children by providing them with healthy choices in a fun way, be it through football, the arts or literacy and reading.”
