Enterprising Museum of the Year 2015 shortlist announced

The four projects in the running to be named Museums Galleries Scotland Enterprising Museum of the Year 2015 have been announced. The award which is in its fourth year and sponsored by Museum Galleries Scotland celebrates museums in Scotland which show outstanding commercial innovation.

The four museums on the shortlist for the 2016 Museums Galleries Scotland Enterprising Museum Award are:

Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum for their recent museum opening which attracted an extraordinary level of community support.

Banchory Museum for their ReSound project, which has invigorated the young people in a community through a combination of tradition and modern music

The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum for their McManus 168 project, which has taken advantage of their long-time Festival of Museums participation to renew and reinvigorate their supporters.

Scottish Maritime Museum’s Scottish Boat Building School for the way it reinvigorated traditional skills to make them more sustainable and desirable for the local community.

Chief Executive of Arts & Business Scotland, David Watt said: “This is the fourth year the Museums Galleries Scotland Enterprising Museum Award has featured in our Awards celebrations and we’re delighted to see such a strong shortlist of innovative museums spread right across the country. Congratulations to each of the four and we look forward to revealing the winner in February.”

Joanne Orr, Chief Executive of Museums Galleries Scotland, added: “Congratulations to our four shortlisted museums. These projects really exemplify the innovative and entrepreneurial work by museums across Scotland. I am pleased that we can highlight their achievements through the Enterprising Museum Award.”

The winning project will be announced at the Arts & Business Scotland Awards ceremony in Edinburgh on 3 February 2016.
