Arts & Business Scotland is delighted to learn that, in her capacity as Chair of Arts & Business Scotland and for services to cultural heritage, Diana Murray has been appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) as part of Her Majesty the Queen’s 2019 New Year’s Honours List.
Diana assumed the role of Chair of Arts & Business Scotland in May 2016. She has worked in the cultural and historic environment sector for over 40 years and was the Chief Executive of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) and latterly, joint CEO of Historic Scotland (HS) until October 2015 when Historic Environment Scotland (HES) took over the roles of both organisations.
Diana retired from HES at the end of 2016. She is an Honorary Fellow of both the Society of Antiquaries and the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh as well as being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Scottish Royal Geographical Society and a member of the Institute of Directors. For many years, she was a non-executive director of the National Trust for Scotland and recently stood down from an eight-year term as a board member of the Scottish Waterways Trust. Diana is also currently a Trustee with a number of organisations including the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh, the Scottish Seabird Centre and the Scottish International Education Trust.
