Your Voice, Your Story

Scottish Book Trust

Business needs served:

  • Improving staff health and wellbeing
  • Supporting teambuilding and improving dynamics in the workplace
  • Supporting innovation, creative thinking and problem solving in the workplace

Your Voice, Your Story is a creative writing workshop, inspired by our annual Scotland’s Stories project, that’s designed to give individuals in a business the opportunity to tell a story based either around their own life or around a theme that you select as a group.

Storytelling helps us to amplify and celebrate our own unique voice – improving confidence and a sense of self – and sharing those stories helps us to connect to those around us. Your Voice, Your Story aims to create valuable connections in the workplace, supporting staff bonding, and promoting the health and wellbeing that’s so important for a positive work environment.

We’ll hold two two-hour sessions over two weeks (with homework for participants in between) supporting your staff to collaborate, get to know each other and gather ideas for their own stories. We will then guide them in the writing and crafting their story, which they’ll present to the rest of the team in the final session – a great way to hone presentation skills and improve confidence too!

To further develop presentation skills, we can also add digital storytelling workshops into the mix, giving individuals the chance to create an audio recording accompanied by pictures, using computer software. Delivered through six one-hour workshops, this will also support staff to hone their digital skills and to overcome any technology fears. As every story will be scripted and edited solely by its creator, individuals will also benefit from building on their planning and prioritising skills.

Can books make a difference? Absolutely!

Established in 1998, Scottish Book Trust believes that reading and writing for pleasure has the power to transform lives, from supporting mental health and wellbeing to breaking the poverty cycle, improving employability and inspiring creativity.

As Scotland’s only national reading charity, our mission is to ensure people living in Scotland have equal access to books and, every year, we deliver our world-class programmes and annual awards to well over two million people. From introducing books and storytelling to pre-school children to inspiring and empowering adult readers and writers, we believe it’s never too early – or too late – to begin a magical journey with words.

We deliver our programmes in every local authority area in Scotland and we work with partners ranging from small community groups to the Scottish Government. Our book-gifting programmes through Bookbug and Read, Write, Count reach over 310,000 children across Scotland every year.

You’ll find us in schools and libraries and at community events. You’ll find us in towns and cities and in isolated, rural communities. And you’ll find us bringing books to life for children in care, families living in challenging circumstances and people in prison. In short, you’ll find us wherever we’re needed most.
