The Bigger Picture

Project Ability

Business needs served:

  • Supporting innovation, creative thinking and problem solving in the workplace
  • Improving staff health and wellbeing
  • Supporting business-to-community engagement and development
  • Supporting teambuilding and improving dynamics in the workplace

Picture this, a day spent in our bright and airy art studios to encourage ideas to flow, challenge new ways of working and unleash your inner creative being!

Working both individually and as part of a team, you’ll explore creative problem solving and learn alternative ways to relax, release anxiety and improve wellbeing… all through art. Get ready to pick up your paintbrush!

Our full-day workshop is designed to allow everyone’s personalities to shine. Your day will be co-led by an experienced art tutor and either a learning-disabled artist or an artist with experience of mental ill-health. Their enthusiasm and unique ways of working will help break down barriers, expand comfort zones and make the whole day lots of fun!

You’ll be eased in with some simple warm-up exercises – exploring colours, tones and mark making, all to encourage different ways of working. You’ll experiment with listening to different music and testing how it feels to work under various levels of noise and distraction, and you’ll be encouraged to let go and allow ideas to flow. By the afternoon you’ll have the confidence of Picasso and be ready to set about your masterpiece. You’ll be given a canvas on which to explore your own creative style. Then, using one of our gallery walls, you’ll work as a team to hang your canvases in a certain order to see The Bigger Picture… and all will be revealed!

Tea, coffee and lunch are included and you’ll leave with new art for your workplace walls, along with flourishing ideas and renewed confidence and friendships.

Delivered by... Project Ability

Project Ability creates opportunities through inclusive art for all. Since 1984, we’ve been supporting, celebrating and platforming diversity within the contemporary visual arts sector.

Based in Glasgow, in the award winning Trongate 103, we provide a welcoming arts community for people with learning disabilities and mental ill-health. We provide the space and expertise to allow individuals to express themselves, build confidence and achieve their potential because, through art, we believe we can improve the lives and wellbeing of people with disabilities and experiences of mental ill-health. Our strong and vibrant community of artists learn skills, connect and build confidence through attending Project Ability, and we run three core workshops:

ReConnect: An open studio for adults with experience of mental ill-health.

Aspire: A visual arts programme for adults with learning disabilities.

Create: An arts programme for children and young people with disabilities.

We also host a year-round calendar of projects, masterclasses and exhibitions to reach out to and connect people and communities across Scotland. Our gallery and shop are essential spaces used to promote the artists and their work, while our exhibitions and unique artworks delight audiences from around the world as well as providing sales and publicity opportunities for the artists themselves.
