Stills offers contemporary, stylish spaces for any function, right in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre. Our bright and spacious gallery, designed by Reich and Hall Architects, is perfect for receptions, networking events, talks or launches, while our flexible first-floor space is ideal for large meetings, seminars, workshops and talks. Our curatorial staff will also be delighted to give you and your guests an introductory talk about the exhibition that’s on when you are using our spaces for your own event.

We have a flexible approach and will work directly with you to ensure that your event has everything it needs – we offer a comprehensive range of support including equipment hire, technical support, catering and staffing.

The gallery can accommodate up to 50 people comfortably for seated events or up to 150 for standing. Our flexible space can accommodate 35 people seated or 60 standing.

Catering and presentation facilities can be provided.

Located in the heart of Edinburgh, Stills Centre for Photography is the only dedicated public venue for photography in the city.

Established in 1977, we have become champions for the important and powerful role that photography plays in the world. Our unique approach embraces tradition and innovation, making us a key contributor to Edinburgh’s international visual arts sector, and we are proud to have supported thousands of people to engage with photography. For almost five decades, our exhibitions and events programme has sustained Scotland’s photography sector by presenting the work of prominent Scottish photographers and bringing internationally recognised artists to Scotland for the first time.

Stills has state-of-the-art production facilities, including the largest open access darkroom facilities in Scotland and a digital suite of iMacs with the latest Adobe Design packages. We also offer a wide range of high-quality, subsidised training in all areas of photography and digital media.

As part of our commitment to the enjoyment, exploration and understanding of photography, we strive to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. Our exhibitions are always free and we offer fully-funded places to take part in our courses, attend events and access facilities. In 2018, we established Stills School, an innovative and unique alternative photography school for young people, aged 16 to 25, who face barriers to the arts.
