Serious Play

Scottish Youth Theatre

Business needs served:

  • Supporting innovation, creative thinking and problem solving in the workplace
  • Supporting teambuilding and improving dynamics in the workplace
  • Improving staff health and wellbeing

Creativity and collaboration are the keys to success in any theatre production, and also crucial to creativity, transformation and change management in business. Serious Play is a workshop that draws on the building blocks of theatre to unlock the creativity in your team, enable change to happen and stimulate innovation.

Delivered over a half day or a full day, this fun and interactive session takes a different view of the familiar to strengthen team rapport and maximise your creative potential. And there’s not a bit of role-play in sight (unless you want it of course!).

Working with members of Scottish Youth Theatre’s creative team and a theatre director, your team will explore:

  • Generate ideas – games are the mainstay of the rehearsal room and they are also vital in creating new thoughts and ideas. Learn theatre games that help build trust, improve teamwork, boost creativity and gain new perspectives on your business.
  • Make a creative environment – learn techniques for creating safe spaces that nurture creative freedom and support individual and team wellbeing.
  • Build confidence in the team – through exercises, resources and games, help your team bring their creative selves to work and overcome creative blocks. Mistakes are precious!
  • Creative leadership – learn a variety of the techniques and practices that directors and producers use to get the most out of their creative teams.

Delivered by...Scottish Youth Theatre

Since 1976, Scottish Youth Theatre (SYT) has supported the social and personal development of young people all over Scotland.

Our purpose is to collaborate with young theatre artists to create experiences and events that reverberate in their lives, their communities and their country. Through nearly five decades of workshops and productions, we’ve offered unique opportunities to young people, supporting them to learn, grow and achieve. While they are with us, they develop their capacity for creativity, their performance skills, their empathy, and their confidence to build relationships and deliver great results under pressure. These invaluable skills support their future success, whatever business sector they join.

Based all over Scotland, we’re a small and agile team, working remotely and collaboratively to deliver our work in different parts of the country. Our youth theatre projects offer a range of ways for young people to participate, including through skills-based workshops, by making and touring new theatre work and through paid traineeships with wrap-around support for emerging young professionals.

A few of our ‘alumni’ are names you may recognise, but we do much more than develop the stars of the future. During a young person’s formative years, we build experiences and learning that will travel with them throughout their lives, providing them with a platform and the skills to interrogate, question and reflect on the things that matter to them.
