Picture of Health: Creative Workshops to Support Wellbeing

Art in Healthcare

Business needs served:

  • Improving staff health and wellbeing
  • Supporting teambuilding and improving dynamics in the workplace
  • Supporting innovation, creative thinking and problem solving in the workplace

Picture of Health is a programme of creative workshops designed by our professional visual artists to support the wellbeing of your team members. We’ll deliver your workshops at a time that suits you and at a venue of your choice, and we’ll provide all equipment and materials too. Most workshops run for between 60 and 90 minutes, with the full programmes ranging from three to ten successive sessions.

The programme focus is on becoming involved in the creative process rather than on a final product. Our artists understand some of the fears and doubts people may have when they first take part and are skilled in facilitation and encouraging creativity. Sessions are tailored to the interests of the group and participants are encouraged to explore and experiment with different art techniques, so individual workshops might include painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery making and more.

A tailored programme of art workshops provides a great opportunity to bring individuals from different teams and departments together to try something new. We know from workshops we’ve previously delivered that they can also support the development of stronger and more communicative teams, especially when individuals working at different levels within an organisation participate alongside each other. The workshop environment also provides a safe space for individuals to experiment, to explore different approaches and to acknowledge strengths and weaknesses, with dedicated space provided for reflection and relaxation away from busy and stressful workloads.

We have successfully delivered similar programmes of creative workshops with a range of partners including BTO Solicitors and the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.

Delivered by... Art in Healthcare

Our experience shows us that art, and participating in creative opportunities, can make people feel better.

Since 1991, Art in Healthcare has been working to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities by providing opportunities to experience and engage with high quality visual art, and with artists and creativity. Research shows that taking part in art-based activities, and coming together to be creative in a group, can have a positive lasting impact on health and wellbeing, and that putting art exhibitions into venues can enhance and improve how both staff and visitors experience those spaces.

That’s why, for over three decades, we’ve worked with artists, curators and galleries to collect modern and contemporary art, and our collection now extends to over 1,300 artworks, all acquired with the specific intention of supporting health and wellbeing. In 2011, we began to deliver creative workshops too, led by professional artists and often using examples from our own collection as a starting point.
