Get Up and Dance!

YDance

Business needs served:

  • Improving staff health and wellbeing
  • Supporting teambuilding and improving dynamics in the workplace

Our Get Up and Dance! classes are designed to give participants the opportunity to improve their individual health and wellbeing, and work as a team through the interaction and integration inspired by dancing together. As participants master moves from music videos and musicals, or learn bhangra Bollywood style, they’ll exercise the creative thinking part of the brain which helps to generate new ideas.

Evidence shows that learning a new skill, side by side with others, can help to build team wellbeing, engagement and inclusion. Our classes aim to unlock important ‘feel-good’ endorphins, while having fun together helps to break down barriers in the workplace as team members work together on an equal footing, improving communication and connections.

Get up and Dance! classes are fun, active and social. They start with a warm-up to familiar pop songs, then our experienced tutors teach participants a series of moves, which are then linked together to create a dance piece. You staff will become more aware of their bodies and movement as they take part in these upbeat classes and will be inspired with confidence to take a new ‘can-do’ attitude back to the workplace.

Participants don’t need any dance experience, just comfortable clothes, and we can hold classes at your workplace (if you have a large meeting room) or at a convenient local space.

Delivered by...YDance

YDance (Scottish Youth Dance) is Scotland’s award-winning national youth dance organisation and we use a wide range of high-quality classes and aspirational performances to improve mental and physical health, confidence and wellbeing.

Established in 1988, each year we work with around 2,000 children and young people, aged 0 to 25, in over half the local authorities in the country. We work in partnership with Scottish Government, NHS, charities, councils, businesses and schools.

Our vision is to offer every child and young person in Scotland the opportunity to realise their potential as individuals through dance and all our classes are inclusive and accessible. Our professionally trained dance tutors are experienced in keeping everyone involved and can teach a wide range of dance styles from street dance to 1940s lindy hop, contemporary to African or Bollywood.

Through dance we give young people the confidence and belief in themselves to succeed and our classes bring communities together and develop new skills for people at any level. Dance is often only available to those that can afford to pay, so 90% of our classes are free and we actively break down barriers to participation.
